Summer Game Fest 2026 is officially over, and it was definitely one of the most action-packed events in the past few years. Organized by gaming presenter Geoff Keighley, this year's Summer Game Fest was full of highly anticipated sequels, rebirths of popular franchises, surprising remakes, innovative IPs, and even release dates to keep gamers buzzing through the event.
Ranging from Capcom announcing its plan to recreate one of the best loved titles in the Resident Evil series to Square Enix revealing the last installment of the much-loved Final Fantasy VII Remake, the event had many more surprises than anyone could have imagined. No matter your genre preference be it horror, RPG, racing games, adventure or strategy games – Summer Game Fest 2026 had some exciting news for you.
Resident Evil Veronica Finally Becomes Reality
One of the biggest moments of the night came early on during the event when Capcom announced Resident Evil Veronica, which is a complete remake of the popular Resident Evil: Code Veronica title.
Fans of the game have for long called for a remade version of the game following the success of the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 games. Their call has been answered as Capcom announced Resident Evil Veronica. The company did not show a lot of footage of gameplay but confirmed the actual existence of the project and its release date of 2027.
This announcement was one of the most talked about announcements of the event night and demonstrated how the Resident Evil series is one of the best in video gaming today.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Closes the Show in Spectacular Fashion
While Resident Evil Veronica kicked off the event with a bang, Square Enix made sure Summer Game Fest went out with a big splash too. The company officially announced the release of the latest title from its ongoing Final Fantasy VII Remake series, namely Final Fantasy VII Revelation. This game marks the conclusion of the highly anticipated trilogy, releasing in Spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

There were quite a few surprises included in the video footage of the game, including that beloved fan favorite characters, such as Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind, will make appearances in Revelation, not to mention the return of the airship called Highwind to allow gamers to roam the entire game world once again. There will also be an entirely new job system implemented into the game. It is safe to say that Revelation is a long-awaited title for Final Fantasy fans.
The Wolf Among Us 2 Returns After Years of Silence
Telltale Games made another unexpected announcement regarding their long-anticipated title. After much delay and development struggles, The Wolf Among Us 2 is now set to make its return. In addition to the brand-new trailer for the highly awaited sequel, the studio announced the 2027 release date as well as The Wolf Among Us Remastered for Holiday 2026.
This double announcement was celebrated by many fans of the franchise who have been waiting for more than ten years for the continuation of Bigby Wolf's adventures.
Stellar Blade, Cuphead and Attack on Titan Get New Entries

Racing Fans Get New Open-World Experiences
There was also good news for the open-world racing community at the event. Clutch is an open-world racing game created by former Forza Horizon developers and expected to be released in Spring 2027. While not much information is available about the gameplay itself, the history of the studio has quickly made this game of interest to many racing fans.
The other interesting title that came out at the event is the new game in the Hot Wheels series called Hot Wheels Infinite Rush, scheduled for release on September 24, 2026.
TMNT, Virtua Fighter and Stranger Than Heaven Make Headlines
There were some unexpected announcements from action game lovers as well. The creators of PlatinumGames have come up with another interesting game that is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. It is based on a very popular comic book series and considering how famous this studio is in designing action-based games, many expectations have arisen.
On the other hand, RGG Studio has come forward to reveal Virtua Fighter Crossroads which will be yet another addition to the long-running fighting game series created by Sega. This action-packed game is set to be released in 2027.
Lastly, there was an unexpected comeback by Stranger Than Heaven which was launched on January 15, 2027. The most anticipated part of this game was the appearance of iconic rappers, Tupac Shakur, and Snoop Dogg.
Guild Wars 3 and Star Wars Zero Company Expand the RPG and Strategy Space
Those who enjoyed role-playing games and strategy titles have not been left out. Guild Wars 3 was confirmed by ArenaNet, and the game will be developed for PCs and PlayStation 5. The first beta for the title is set for release in Fall 2027.
The next game on the list was the new Star Wars: Zero Company by Lucasfilm Games. This turn-based tactics title features strategic squad fights involving classic Star Wars characters like Anakin Skywalker. Its release date is set for August 27.
Major Expansions Coming to Popular Franchises
A few big games are getting some serious love after their launch dates. Capcom revealed that Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a huge expansion, would be coming out in 2027. The expansion will bring in content with Master Ranks, new Elder Dragons, skills, and difficulties for experienced hunters to enjoy.
On the other hand, there is Mafia: The Old Country, which will be receiving an expansion called Man of Honor. This expansion will add two new story arcs and improved Free Ride features. It will be released on August 14, 2026.
Lastly, RuneScape: Dragonwilds got an official September 15th, 2026 launch date as well as being revealed for the Xbox Series X|S console platform.
Horror Fans Have Plenty to Look Forward To

Summer Game Fest also presented numerous other original projects emphasizing their story lines. NetEase announced a new title called Blood Message, which is a game of action and adventure set in the Tang Dynasty of China around 848 AD. It seems like the title relies heavily on storytelling.
Renowned game developer Fumito Ueda, who developed such titles as Shadow of the Colossus and Ico, presented a new project called gen Atlas, a science fiction title with huge robots and large-scale exploration. This game is expected to be a continuation of the artistic style typical for all games by Fumito.
There was also news about The Blood of Dawnwalker and even a single player version of the popular series CrossFire created by former employees of Call of Duty.
Assassin's Creed Creator Reveals 1666 Amsterdam
One of the original founders of the game series Assassin’s Creed, Patrice Desilets, has announced his new creation called 1666 Amsterdam.
There is an already available prologue for free which can be downloaded through Steam and Epic Games Store. The actual game will be released in Early Access sometime during this year.
Among Us Expands Beyond Multiplayer
The Among Us universe is evolving in surprising ways. A game named Among Us Story: On Guard was revealed by the developers. The game will be single-player and story-driven and will revolve around the Among Us universe.
However, at the very same time, an animated series titled “Among Us” was suddenly dropped onto Paramount+. The entire ten-episode run of the series was immediately released following its announcement.
Street Fighter 6 Year 4 DLC Steals the Spotlight
Among the crowd reactions that stood out from Capcom's presentation was their Street Fighter 6 Year 4 DLC announcement. The roster features four new fighters, namely, Yasmine, Arjun, Bosch, and Tifa Lockhart from the Final Fantasy 7 franchise.
