Vivo is entering the premium audio category with its first wireless over-ear ANC headphones launching on May 29 in China. The headphones feature a lightweight design, triple-device connectivity, and active noise cancellation aimed at everyday users.

Chinese smartphone behemoth Vivo will finally break into the market for over-ear headphones from its previously occupied space in true wireless earbuds. Indeed, Vivo has announced that the company’s first ever set of wireless over-ear noise-cancelling headphones will debut in China on May 29 to accompany the Vivo S60 smartphone line-up.

The Chinese firm has long invested much in the development of its TWS earbuds range, but times have changed in the world of technology. These days, it is not enough for headphones to just provide entertainment through music streaming services – over-ear headphones are used daily for work meetings, movie viewing while commuting, gaming or simply drowning out the world around one.
Vivo Is Taking a Minimal and Comfort-First Approach
Whereas many brands attempt to go with some futuristic and edgy look on their first headphones, it looks like Vivo intends to keep it simple and straightforward. Judging by the teaser images released by the manufacturer, the design concept is rather sober and restrained, including huge cushioned ear cups, matte finish, and understated branding.

The brand seems to have opted for functionality over appearance when designing its headphones. According to Vivo, the weight of the headset is estimated at roughly 238g, which is light compared to other wireless over-ear noise-cancelling models. The fact might become its biggest asset upon usage.
Any person who tried wearing over-ear headphones during long hours knows about the priority of the latter aspect. Although features such as huge drivers and bass tuning may seem appealing to many people, the lack of comfort will completely spoil the user experience once it arises. People who spend hours at work meetings, stream series, travel in planes, or move between different devices constantly need comfortable headphones.

Colour Options
Vivo’s confirmation includes not one but two colour options of the headphones which are Cloud White and Breeze Purple. While Cloud White provides the device with elegance and class, Breeze Purple adds some personality into the mix without making the earphones too bright or gaudy.
In particular, Breeze Purple is a reflection of the new era when headphones and other audio equipment become more than just gadgets. Audio devices become a part of one’s life style, something you are going to use outside your home during long periods of time.
Active Noise Cancellation Confirmed
Among the features already confirmed is that of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). As per Vivo, these headphones have been engineered to cut out the ambient noise in places such as office spaces, cafes, and public transportation.
Even without technical information on the ANC ratings, driver size, audio codecs, or battery capabilities, it can be said that ANC has become an almost necessity in the class of premium wireless headphones as the consumers expect these headphones to offer a distraction-free listening experience.
With the addition of ANC, along with proper comfort, these headphones can attract many more consumers than Vivo smartphones.
Triple-Device Connectivity Could Be a Major Convenience Feature
Another remarkable feature that is backed by Vivo is triple device connectivity through different ecosystems. This means that the headphones can be used with up to three devices at the same time without having to manually change from one device to another every single time.
In today’s era where multitasking between different devices is becoming increasingly common in all areas of our lives, being able to multitask while still listening through the headphones is something that everyone would desire.
Although there are other companies out there that have such sophisticated multi-device connectivity options, the fact that Vivo has chosen to include this function in its first-generation headphones proves that the company knows the needs of today’s customers well.
The headphones have already shown up in e-commerce channels before the release, with pre-orders having been officially launched. Nonetheless, no prices have been communicated by Vivo.
This pricing approach may eventually determine the fate of this product. Currently, the over-the-ear headphone segment is saturated with top competitors such as Sony, Bose, and Apple. It would be challenging to compete with these brands' flagship products at this level.
In this case, it might be possible for Vivo to occupy a competitive niche by pricing the headphones competitively in the mid-premium range while also providing decent ANC, comfort, and seamless cross-device compatibility. There is definitely an increasing market for premium headphones that do not command the same price tag as those of Sony and Apple.
The release also marks another step in Vivo's ecosystem plans. Today, many smartphone companies are creating their own product ecosystems that go beyond smartphones and into the territory of tablets, smartwatches, earbuds, and even over-ear headphones. It is a straightforward idea: keep consumers in the same ecosystem.
Judging by the fact that the Vivo S60 series phones will come out together with this product line, the Chinese company seems ready to become more of a consumer electronics company than a smartphone producer.
Details on battery life, audio hardware capabilities, latency support, and pricing will likely be revealed at Vivo's May 29 press conference in China. With any luck, Vivo will be able to get things right when it comes to comfort, ANC functionality, and price point, and create one of the most exciting audio products in the mid-premium category.
